Conserving energy – what about electric fireplaces
It is unlikely that anyone who enjoys the media of internet, radio, or TV is not familiar with global warming. The focus of the press has amplified dramatically over the past few years. Not everyone agrees on the highly-debated topic, but concern is reasonable. If predictions are accurate, the earth will not be a safe haven for your descendants.
Sadly, many want to join the fight against global warming but do not realize how easy and cheap it can be. Often, too much focus is placed on energy efficient vehicles and appliances. Every little bit helps, and if you do not have the budget for the big items, there are less expensive ways to become proactive.
By being aware of your actions around your home, you can greatly reduce your contribution to global warming. Make sure to turn off your electrical appliances – such as your television or computer – when you aren’t using them. Using this method to combat future issues will likely also save you money in the here and now.
One of the easiest ways to reduce electricity usage is to ensure that all lights and appliances are turned off when they are not in use. If you want to help, this is a free way to do so and it will also likely help your wallet by saving you money on your bills. Another way you can help is by making sure your thermostat is not turned up too high so enjoy the comfort of wearing a sweater instead. Even a few degrees can help reduce the toxic emissions that come from your home.
By getting rid of the old standard light bulbs, and replacing them with energy efficient ones, you can also help. You can save yourself a little bit of money each year by switching all or at least most of the lights in your home to energy efficient light bulbs. These bulbs can last up to two years, which is longer than the traditional ones. Buying a multi-pack of these bulbs should not cost more than five dollars.
Don’t think that you have to own a home to wage a conscientious battle against global warming because renters can do their part too. You may want to speak with your landlord about making any window repairs, especially if you feel cold air entering into your home when it shouldn’t be. Other things to discuss with your landlord include the hot water heater and the addition of an insulating blanket because these are environmentally friendly and may save your landlord money.
If you cannot buy a hybrid (or similarly energy efficient vehicle) you do not have to worry, as there are other ways to make your transportation less strenuous on the environment. For example, are all of your driving trips actually needed? If not, consider walking, carpooling, or using public transportation. Leave the car at home at least three times a week, and you can do your part in fighting global warming.
