Using Mirrors to Create Space
Studies have proved that home owners who keep mirrors dotted around their house tend to be more confident and get on better in life. helping to improve your self confidence, mirrors help you with interior decorating issues, particularly if you don’t have much space to play around with.
Decorating experts may advise you to hang a large wall mirror if you want to create the illusion of extra room. If you have a room that is not as big as you would like it to be and you’re not thrilled at the idea of removing partitions or changing the entire furniture with something that will make the area seem wider, a few well-placed floor-to-ceiling mirrors might very well have the desired effect. By reflecting the whole of the room, mirrors can give the effect that there is twice as much room available.
But do bear in mind, you can’t simply go placing mirrors anywhere you feel like it. Mirrors can’t help if large items of furniture are blocking the mirrors, for instance. Select a wall that will give people fewer chances to see the reflections because this would reduce the illusion of space that you’re wanting to create – opposite some good oak bookcases could be an excellent location.
Of course, mirrors are integral to certain pieces of household furniture in some rooms – vanity sinks, for example, will have a mirror to increase the sense of space.
To create the best illusion of extra space, study how the room is organized and identify those parts of it that are not the opposite of where people sit. Remember that the mirrors need not cover the entire wall surface, just the entire height. If you do it right, your floor to ceiling mirrors can give the illusion that there are entrances into different rooms, building the illusion of space.
